About Kanab

Kanab, Utah is a small town of about 5,000. Though its roots are in farming and ranching, tourism has long been a staple. It makes sense since it is located less than 75 miles to any one of these locations: Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Grand Staircase National Monument, Pipe Springs National Monument, Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and so much more!

There are 14 Hotels, 10 RV Parks, 5 B&B's, 178 Vacation Rental Homes, 2 Grocery Stores, 25 Restaurants and Eateries, 9 Gas Stations, 2 Hardware Stores, and a Family Dollar.

Here are some suggestions:

Take a hike! There are so many amazing trails – you’ll have to return again and again to catch them all.

• Take a drive! Almost any direction you go, you will find a variety of cool geological formations. The views are never mundane! Plus, there are lots of loops so you never have to drive by the same thing twice!

• Visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon via the National Park or find one of the less traveled viewpoints from Forest Service roads.

• Eat at one of Kanab’s two dozen restaurants. The town has quite the reputation as a foodie destination!

Play the recreation lottery and win a chance to hike into the Wave or South Coyote Buttes. Both offer unique and beautiful geologic formations that are world reknown.

• Take a tour of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. It is the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the world!

Rent a side by side and go off roading at Hog Canyon, the sand dunes or along any of the many BLM and Forest Service roads.

Kayak the Colorado River from the Dam.

Get an arial view of it all from a Bi-Plane.

• Rent an electric bike and take a ride on a local scenic byway, through Zion or around Kanab.

• Challenge your photography skills capturing the sunlight streaking into a slot canyon or the stunning red rocks contrasting with amazing sunsets or the intricate geological patterns on nearby mountains.

• Visit Bryce Canyon National Park and see the colorful hoodoos.

• Take a dip at Lake Powell or rent a personal watercraft to discover the slot canyons and beaches.

• Visit Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and snowboard the dunes.

Fish at Jackson Flat Reservoir or rent a paddleboard to tour the calm waters. Alternately, walk the 3 mile trail around the Reservoir.

• Take in the amazing rock formations of Zion National Park with easy, 1/4 mile hikes or more challenging hikes like Angel's Landing.

• Get a historic glimpse back into this area’s past by visiting Pipe Spring National Monument.

• Experience Toroweap, the quiet Grand Canyon/Colorado River view.

• Hot day? Head for cool, refreshing Cedar Mountain and the Duck Creek area with colorful forests, astounding scenic views. Climb through the cool lava caves of Mammoth Caves or boat Navajo Lake.

• Want a taste of the Old West? Stop by Parry Lodge to see western photos and movie memorabilia. Take a driving tour of old filming locations. See if you can recognize them based on the film.

• Visit Kodachrome Basin State Park. The strange and amazing rock formations will make you think that you’ve been taken to another planet.

• Tour the historic Heritage House on Main Street/100 South in Kanab.

• Check out Cedar Breaks National Monument. The red rock spires resemble Bryce, and for those with stars in their eyes, it was recently named a dark sky destination.

• Take an off-road guided tour in a jeep or OHV to see some incredible sights.

• Play nine holes at the scenic Thunderbird Golf Course in Mt. Carmel.

• Visit the Kane County Tourism Information Center to get additional recreational ideas, hiking maps and activities to attend

the Metal plex

The Metal Plex consists of Waterman Weldiing and Machining and Blacksmith Adventures.

Five acres house both a large welding/machining shop and a smaller blacksmith shop and school. Both businesses are owned independently but together, they fulfill the needs of a vast clientel.

Waterman Welding and Machining offers aluminum and steel welding, machining and fabrication, and oxyacetylyne gas.

Blacksmith Adventures offers 1 hour to half day blacksmith classes. They also produce an extensive line of ironwork for home decor. Additionally, they craft custom CNC plasma cut signs. And, lastly, are home to Forge-Aprons leather aprons for smiths.

Getting Here

Plane

St George, Utah is the closest International Airport at 1.5 hours away. The more commonly used airport is Las Vegas International. Vegas is a 3 hour drive from Kanab. There is no shuttle service to Kanab from either airport.

Car

By far the best way to enjoy Southern Utah is by car.
